:: Mission ::

To train licensed independent clinicians in psychoanalytic couples and family therapy; to offer professional consultation to community-based agencies; and to sponsor public outreach and education comprise the three domains of the PCFINE mission.

:: History ::

In 1993 a group of senior clinicians founded the Institute wedding psychoanalytic theory with the complementary understanding of how interpersonal systems function. PCFINE's approach respects the integrity of individuals while also recognizing the significance of interpersonal, particularly family, contexts in shaping experience. From marriages and families to social institutions and government, our lives are organized around complex relationships and their impact on us. Enriching the experience of individuals, couples and families, and of professionals responding to their needs, drives the PCFINE mission.

To fulfill its aims, PCFINE is committed to the following initiatives:

  • Offering consultation on a pro bono basis to agencies and organizations assisting families and children in distress
  • Fostering cooperation across disciplines and professions through conferences and public programs addressing family dynamics and collaborative approaches to treatment
  • Training licensed clinicians in the theories and techniques of psychodynamic couples and family therapy
  • Developing prevention and public outreach programs about family planning, sexuality, and conflict resolution for high school and college students
