Dear members of the PCFINE Community: Students, Faculty and Board,

May 5th was my last board meeting as president, a journey that began in 1992 when I contacted Gerry Stechler with an idea I had to teach psychoanalysts couple therapy. Our meeting quickly launched a study group that over an amazingly and exciting four years, led to the development of PCFINE with its evolving mission not only to train clinicians in couple and eventually family therapy, but to actively engage underserved communities and provide consultations that would maximize each consultants time by reaching many people in these community organizations via an indirect consultation model which also provided preventative services as well.

After close to 17 years of hard work in developing our training program and outreach programs that touched thousands of families, I would like to thank all of those many people—too many to name-- from past to present that contributed to our training and outreach programs; from the Child Witness to Violence Project at Boston Medical Center, The Cambridge Children and Family Services, the Dedham and Boston Probate Courts, Visiting Nurses Association, three different private schools, the SOFAR program and a training program for psychiatric residents at Tufts New England Medical Center that continues, as does the Child Witness to Violence Project. These programs were able to flourish with the wonderful support of so many people on the board, faculty and members of the MIP, PINE and BPSI communities that gave so much of themselves, their time and their creativity-- over these many years.

It has been my privilege to be part of this amazing community called PCFINE and have the opportunity to serve as its first president. Our future is secured not only by the fabulous students in our program that come from all over New England and occasionally from other parts of the country, but also by the great leadership in our ever evolving training program and our new co-presidents that are succeeded me.

As we proceed through this developmental transition, PCFINE is maturing into a rich, solid, capable and intellectually stimulating organization, that is unique in its history of training and outreach but also special, in its endeavor to integrate psychoanalytic and systemic thinking in our psychodynamic community. Looking ahead, I am hopeful that our institute will continue to thrive, grow, diversify and deepen as the next generation of leaders contribute to the richness of our community. I look forward to continuing to contribute to PCFINE’s development and enjoy what lies ahead.

Warmly,

Ken Reich
