:: Advanced Training in Couples and Family Therapy ::

Enhancing the psychological functioning of families also serves as the touchstone for advanced training at PCFINE. Its one-year program in Couples and Family Therapy combines an understanding of family dynamics and couples systems with a psychoanalytic perspective.

Licensed clinicians are trained in a sophisticated approach to counseling that appreciates personal complexity while addressing the multiple factors that shape both intimate and family relationships. The program’s core faculty consists of senior clinicians and analysts, some who are among the leading practitioners in the field.

:: Second Year Training Program ::

An optional second year of training exists for students who, after completing the first year, desire to broaden and deepen their grasp of conceptual and technical aspects of couple therapy, including closer supervision of their clinical work. For more information please contact the coordinator Carolynn Maltas.

:: Outreach and Education ::

Each year, PCFINE sponsors several public programs that focus on the well-being of families and children. Recent lectures and workshops have included “Violence in the Family,” co-sponsored with the Child Witness to Violence Project; and “When Love Hurts: Abuse and Victimization in Intimate Relationships” with Virginia Goldner, Ph.D., a national expert on family therapy. Anna Ornstein, M.D. offered a workshop on "Child-centered Family Therapy" and David Scharff M.D. and Jill Savege Scharff M.D. presented a workshop on "Psychoanalytic Couple Therapy."
